A continued salute to Paul Tyler
We, at ArtsKC, aren’t the only ones who think Paul Tyler is the bee’s knees and then some. Pretty much all of Kansas City shares the same sentiment. Again, congratulations on your retirement, Paul! We wish you nothing but the best of the best!
Here are quite a few remarks from fellow friends, colleagues, and admirers:
When a man retires and time is no longer of importance. What’s given? A gold watch. Thanks Paul, for giving up the golden hours of your life in the service of others. Even though we strongly disagree on how KCIA graduates, teachers and those associated with the Institution are treated ABOVE and beyond that of other KC artist. I wanted to personally Thank You for giving a few “outsiders” a little hope in KC. We appreciate that you occasionally did throw a few bread crumbs to us beggars sitting on the back rows. Thanks for giving a dust breathing artist, the gift of fresh air and hope. I am grateful i was found, worthy in your eyes, to receive a few alms-Enjoy your long coffee break.

I worked with Paul for close to 9 months as an intern and a temporary employee at ArtsKC. In that time, Paul was not only a dedicated employee with strong passion for his job, but also a great companion who I always felt comfortable coming to with questions or concerns regarding work or even life in general. He is a big reason why my time at ArtsKC was such a great experience and part of the reason I still keep up with the Arts Community today. As thankful as I am to have had Paul as a co-worker, I am more thankful to have him as a friend. It will be tough to see not only the Arts Community, but also Kansas City lose Paul as an employee. However, I can only wish him the best going forward and hope he remains an advocate for the community he has done so much for.

Wow! This is a picture of noble deed and fierce benevolence. For the arts in Kansas City, or any city, to make it into city hall constitutes vision and determination.
I’m so greatful to you Paul. The first time I saw you was during Creative Capital, putting sheets of paper on the wall that spoke to our artistic dream of being part of a larger whole. Since then you have been a constant in my life, more than an advocate… A friend and a champion, a human and a fan. A survivor who brings that visceral knowledge to bear for the arts.
You help see that we are part of the whole. All the seemingly crazy things we do as artists actually make life better for our community.
Mayor Sly James thank you for your unique attention and keen understanding of how the arts plays a deep role in the livability of a city.
Amazing picture that brings a cheer to my lips and inspiration to my soul.
