Local dance class creates routine to be featured in new Krizz Kaliko music video

EJ Staxx is a local choreographer, who teaches a regular dance class for beginners and intermediates every Monday evening at the Mary L. Kelly Center here in Kansas City. Recently, local musician Krizz Kaliko asked Staxx’s class to create a dance routine, which will be performed during an upcoming taping of a music video for one of Krizz Kaliko’s new songs. The full video isn’t available yet, but here is a little sneak peek. We at ArtsKC are definitely going to be on the lookout for this music video, and you can too, by following EJ Staxx on Facebook.

Miss Gay America Missouri pageant struts its stuff beginning April 7

Since 1972, The Miss Gay America Pageant (MGA) has been an act of rebellion and celebration of performance in drag. Missouri has participated in the MGA for many years. Most recently, our very own Miss Gay Missouri America (MGMA), Adria Andrews 2015 and Christa Collins 2014, have made it into the top three. Victoria DePaula MGMA 2008, was crowned MGA in 2009. One of the most exciting parts of any MGA event is watching the talent portion. Every Miss Gay Missouri is known for her dance performances and this year is sure to be just as dance heavy. We at ArtsKC are excited to see one contestant in particular, Regina La-Rae, Miss Gay Paris of the Plains 2016. She has a very exciting dance routine with back up dancers planned for the MGMA pageant on April 7.

Acclaimed Russian cellist to highlight Park University International Center for Music’s concert season series

Park University’s International Center for Music Concert, Saturday, April 2, 7:30 p.m.

Highly-acclaimed Russian cellist Arkadi Kuchynski will be the feature performer in the next performance of the Park University International Center for Music’s (ICM) 2015-16 concert season series. Kuchynski, who has served as associate professor of cello at Tunghai University in Taiwan since 1995, has been playing the cello since the age of seven. The concert will feature traditional Russian Ballet music and will be held Saturday, April 2, in Graham Tyler Memorial Chapel on the University’s Parkville Campus starting at 7:30 p.m. Individual tickets for the general public are $10 and can be purchased here, or at the door. Park University students, faculty, and staff with Park IDs, are admitted free. The ICM will hold its Gala concert on Wednesday, May 4, starting at 8 p.m. at the Kauffman Center for the Performing Arts in Kansas City, Mo. Tickets are now on sale through the Kauffman Center’s website.

Park University in Partnership with the Owen Cox Dance Group is an ArtsKC Catalyst Grant recipient.

As we all know, Kansas City has a plethora of places to eat, drink, and dance, but we are always ready to welcome the newest attraction with open arms. Electrosexual, an up-and-coming dance party in Kansas City, is spinning the best in alternative dance and indie electronic music. It meets at a different location each time, so check their Facebook or Instagram for updates. It reminds us at ArtsKC of our favorite dance party out of Chicago, Chances Dances – a dance party that brings together the varied LGBTIQ communities of Chicago, which also raises money for an annual grant to be given to a chosen artist. In that spirit, we look forward to what Electrosexual has in store for the future.

New Moves, Kansas City Ballet’s annual program kicks off April 1

Kansas City Ballet will open the annual “New Moves” program on Friday, April 1, at the Todd Bolender Center for Dance & Creativity. The performances, which take place in the Michael and Ginger Frost Studio Theater, will run until April 9. Audiences will experience six world-premiere works from six very different choreographers, including Jennifer Archibald, Andrew Skeels, and Stephanie Martinez, as well as three company dancers: Sarah Chun, Charles Martin, and Ryan Jolicoeur-Nye.
