The Scout (1910) | KC Outdoor Sculpture
Kansas City has many beautiful outdoor public sculptures that complement our City of Fountains. The Scout is a famous statue by Cyrus E. Dallin that stands east of Southwest Trafficway in Penn Valley Park, which is south of downtown Kansas City. The Scout is more than 10 feet tall, and depicts a Sioux Indian on horseback surveying the landscape. The quiet tree-lined streets of our Kansas City neighborhoods and our nationally recognized boulevards showcase hundreds of magnificent and unique works of art. Many were donated by our citizens, others were purchased by developers, and some were added by the city for enjoyment of all. In 1994, local volunteers working with the national Save Outdoor Sculpture project cataloged more than 200 public fountains, monuments, memorials, ornaments, and sculptures in the greater Kansas City area. Visit them all!
Our other favorite KC Outdoor Sculpture and another piece by the artist Cyrus E. Dallin is Massasoit. Such a beautiful sculpture!
